From the November 2004 Idaho Observer:

FLU SCARE 2004

For the last several weeks the local and national news have been headlining stories about this year's flu vaccine shortage. Reminiscent of teenagers standing in line for concert tickets, "Flu Scare 2004" is prompting people from all parts of the country to stand in line for hours-sometimes (ironically) in the cold, the wind and the rain-in hopes they will be lucky enough receive their flu shot this year. There have even been reports of people rioting and assaulting one another when flu vaccine demand is greater than supplies on hand. Physicians have even stated they don't know how to "protect" their patients from the flu without a flu vaccine.

The shortage is allegedly linked to 47 million "contaminated" doses from British vaccine manufacturer Chiron. The claim is suspect. Because vaccines are so toxic and unsterile by nature, by what measure are they too contaminated for the marketplace?

There must be a reason why Flu Scare 2004 involves a rumor of insufficient supply of vaccine.

Government, industry conspire to hype flu fears, boost vaccine sales at annual "by invitation only" conferenceNational Influenza Summit, 2004-05

ATLANTA-The Centers for Disease Control and the American Medical Association co-sponsored the third annual National Influenza Summit 2004-05 in Atlanta last April 12-13. This event is by invitation only. Among the many who gave presentations at the conference, which is dedicated to coordinating the promotion of flu scare and flu vaccine, were vaccine manufacturers Aventis, Chiron and CDC Associate Director for Communications with the National Immunization Program Glen Nowak, PhD.

While expecting Aventis and Chiron's presentations to promote sales of their products, one does not expect the government to admit how it intentionally provides the media with disinformation to promote flu scare and the flu vaccine remedy.

Dr. Nowak's presentation outlined in detail, through a PowerPoint presentation (available online at www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/36/2004_flu_nowak.pdf) the process used to manipulate the media into hyping last year's flu scare as a means to promote consumer demand for flu vaccine this year.

In his presentation, "Planning for the 2004-05 Influenza Vaccination Season: A Communication Situation Analysis," Dr. Nowak discussed on frames 24-29 a seven-step "recipe" for generating interest in and demand for flu vaccine.

The following is excerpted verbatim from Dr. Novak's presentation:

1. Influenza's arrival coincides with immunization "season" (i.e., when people can take action)

2. Dominant strain and/or initial cases of disease are:

- Associated with severe illness and/or outcomes

- Occur among people for whom influenza is not generally perceived to cause serious complications (e.g., children, healthy adults, healthy seniors)

- In cities and communities with significant media outlets (e.g., daily newspapers, major TV stations)

3. Medical experts and public health authorities publicly (e.g., via media) state concern and alarm (and predict dire outcomes)

- and urge influenza vaccination.

4. The combination of '2' and '3' result in:

A. Significant media interest and attention

B. Framing of the flu season in terms that motivate behavior (e.g., as "very severe," "more severe than last or past years," "deadly")

5. Continued reports (e.g., from health officials and media) that influenza is causing severe illness and/or affecting lots of people

-helping foster the perception that many people are susceptible to a bad case of influenza.

6. Visible/tangible examples of the seriousness of the illness (e.g., pictures of children, families of those affected coming forward) and people getting vaccinated (the first to motivate, the latter to reinforce)

7. References to, and discussions of pandemic influenza-along with continued reference to the importance of vaccination.

We can recall how this "recipe" was used last year to create "Flu Scare 2003"; we can see how the same recipe (with the additional ingredient of inadequate supply) is being used this year.

Ironically, there is another similarity between Flu Scare 2003 and Flu Scare 2004: By early in 2004, the CDC publicly admitted that the flu vaccine did not protect people in 2003-04 because the circulating strains of flu were not in the vaccine-and the same thing is also proving true this year.

Expanding a failure

This year, aggressive flu vaccine sales tactics are targeting 100 million customers in the USA, up from last years 80 million doses. The use of flu vaccine is still controversial 60 years after its introduction.

Medical theorists disagree on whether flu vaccines protect from the flu or the opposite, actually cause diseases. Deaths associated with the flu continue to rise parallel with increased flu vaccine usage. No large population studies prove the flu vaccine to have any protective value.

Every year, 80 to 90 percent of the population is naturally immune to all forms of Influenza Like Illnesses (ILI's). Due to the fact that only 10 to 15 percent of these ILI's are actually flu, Natural immunity protects 96 to 98 people out of every hundred from the flu.

An increasing number of people are concluding that the body is self-protecting and self-healing and that artificial immunization is ineffective and harmful. Known adverse effects of the flu vaccine include flu-like symptoms, joint and muscle pain (sometimes lasting for years), severe allergic reactions and occasional death.

Natural immunity to all contagious diseases is promoted by lifestyle practices which increase digestive ability and elimination of toxins.

Many religious prohibitions against blood pollution exist for both health and spiritual reasons. Scientists are awakening to the fact that vaccination has it roots in the pre-scientific age and no adequate scientific tests prove vaccine safety and effectiveness.

Preparing for the Next Influenza Pandemic

Live from the CDC in Atlanta, "Preparing for the Next Influenza Pandemic," was broadcast via satellite to public health officials all over the world on February 26, 1999. Viewers could get continuing education credit for watching the show. It is government flu experts telling public health people all about the flu, making vaccine and how plans to administrate a state of medical martial law have been developing since 1976. An analysis of this broadcast was published in the July, 1999 edition of The IO and is available on the web. Copies of the original broadcast may be borrowed from your local health dept.
