Time for a spring cleaning

By Ingri Harkins

Spring is here at last, signaling a time for renewal and growth. As our minds turn to spring cleaning, it is important to rethink this concept in terms of cleansing the body of accumulated toxins from the winter months and clearing our mind of negative energy. We can embark on the path to wellness by making a commitment to embark on a modified fast. The purpose of fasting is to eliminate accumulated wastes (toxins) through our bodies natural eliminative channels - the lungs, the pores of the skin, the kidneys and the bowels. According to Dr. Schultze, “No one ever just gets sick. Disease doesn't just happen. It is created by a sick, weak, overloaded Liver..500,000 people this year will have their impacted Gallbladders carved out of their bellies.” For those of you who have never taken a modified fast, I suggest that you start with John Christopher's Three-Day Cleansing Program:

Supplies you will need:

2 quarts prune juice

9 ounces extra virgin olive oil

3 gallons apple or carrot juice

3 gallons distilled water

Suggested Daily Program:

7:30 AM 16 oz. or more of prune juice + 1-2 Tbl. Olive oil

8:00 AM 8 oz. or more apple or carrot juice

8:30 AM 8 oz. or more distilled water

9:00 AM 8 oz. or more apple or carrot juice

9:30 AM 8 oz. or more distilled water

Continue alternating juice and water every half hour until noon.

12:00 PM 8 oz. or more juice and 1-2 Tbl. Olive oil

Continue alternating juice and water every half hour until 5:00 PM

5:00 PM 8 oz. or more juice and 1-2 Tbl. Olive oil

Continue alternating juice and water every half hour until early evening.

8:00 PM 8 oz. water every hour until retiring.

It is important to use either apple or carrot juice for the entire three days. If you feel compelled to munch on something, you can eat ONLY an apple if you are using apple juice and ONLY a carrot if you are drinking carrot juice. All the juice consumed during this cleanse should be “chewed.” This means that each mouthful of juice should be swished in the mouth so that it is thoroughly mixed with saliva before swallowing. On the fourth day as you break this cleanse, consume only raw fruits and raw or slightly steamed vegetables.

Another popular and very effective modified fast and cleanse is Stanley Burrough's Master Cleanser:

* The juice of 6-8 lemons with pulp in a gallon of distilled water

* Organic blackstrap molasses or maple syrup to taste (1/2 cup)

* Cayenne Pepper -- as much as can be reasonably tolerated (60,000 H.U. or higher)

Use a similar schedule as the above three-day cleanse, alternating with distilled water. Continue drinking a full gallon of this mixture for at least three days. If you are currently experiencing low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) or high blood sugar (diabetes), blackstrap molasses should be used instead of pure maple syrup. If you become constipated, taking an herbal laxative in the morning and evening is helpful. When you break this fast, consume only raw fruits and raw or slightly steamed vegetables for the first day.

The benefits of cleansing are numerous. Modified fasts using these two programs dissolve toxins and mucus in the body, allowing our bodies to eliminate built-up waste and hardened deposits in the joints and muscles. Fasting also cleanses the colon, kidneys and the entire digestive tract. These two cleanses have the ability to rejuvenate our endocrine glands, enabling our body to build healthy cells and tissue.

For those of you who are trying to break an addiction, whether it be coffee, alcohol, nicotine, sugar or junk food, these two cleanses will do miracles in eliminating cravings. But the first step is to make a commitment to strengthen your will, eliminate negative thoughts and emotions, and set a date for doing one of these cleanses for your health.
